There’s a new post on the Poptropica Creator’s Blog about how they added parallax scrolling to all the islands to give them more visual depth. It’s kind of hard to see but if you watch their video you can tell how the background scrolls at a slower pace than the foreground. It’s an old trick that a lot of 2D animation uses to make left to right movement seem more realistic. I think it looks pretty good. I also made my own video showing it. It’s easiest to see the effect when you’re outdoors and the objects in the background are in plain view.
