S.O.S. Island

Poptropica Cheats for S.O.S. Island

by Fierce Moon on December 21, 2011

Update: The written walkthrough has now been posted. Scroll down past the video walkthrough to get all the tips and help you need to beat S.O.S. Island.

The latest island on Poptropica is called S.O.S. Island. In this new quest on Poptropica, a whale-watching expedition strikes an iceberg and begins to sink. You need to rescue everyone on board the ship before it sinks into the frigid waters of the North Atlantic.

The island became available for members on Thursday, January 26, 2012 and for the public on February 16, 2012.

The storyline of S.O.S. Island sounds a lot like the real story of the Titanic, one of the most famous disasters in history. The ship sank after hitting an iceberg on April 14, 1912 — almost one hundred years ago! It was made even more famous by the huge movie from 1997 starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

In the Poptropica version, instead of a luxury liner crossing the Atlantic, the ship is a whale-watching pleasure cruise. And from the screenshots, it appears that the name of the ship is the Pequod, which is also the name of the fishing ship in the famous novel, Moby Dick by Herman Melville. Other than what we’ve been able to see in the sneak peeks and screenshots, little else is known about the new island.

Arrival on S.O.S Island

  • When you arrive, jump down and you will land on the ship. There are passengers that are coming out crying on boat. But the lady crew will ask for your help because there are still passengers trapped inside the ship. You can’t enter to the entrance easily because the block of ice is blocking the door way. So you need to find other way to get inside.
  • Jump over the ice platform and try to get to the top of the ship. Look for the iceberg at the edge of the roof and with a little push it will drop exactly to the entrance and clear the door way.
  • Get inside and proceed to the “Bridge” door that’s just beside the exit door.
  • This is the control room where the Captain is located. Tell him that you he needs to evacuate to the ship immediately but he cannot because the “Captain should sink together with it ship” and he’ll ask you to save the other passengers that are still trapped. He will instruct you to press the emergency console button to open the doors of the ship. Turn the knob just beside him and it will open the door of the room # 6.
  • Here, you will save your first rescue and that will be the Whale Caller. He is trapped with all the junk in the room. Click on him and tell him to get off to the ship quickly.
  • You will be automatically get off to the ship, so you don’t need to worry on getting out.
  • Outside, the whale caller will give you his Whale Song Gadget that you will use later on the quest.

The Ship Takes on the Water – Saving Starbuck in the Ballroom

  • In the next seen you’ll see that the ship takes on the water. This time the water level increase in the ship. You need to hurry! I was having a feeling of urgency when I played the game the first time! The next person that you’ll going to rescue is Starbuck, the Cruise Director that is trapped on the Ballroom Hall.
  • When you enter to the ship, run or swim to the left and find the find the Ballroom Room. You need to push the box that is blocking the door. Go inside the room and you will find Starbuck hanging on the chandelier. Odd thing about the Cruise Director is that she can’t swim. How come she became the Cruise Director?
  • Your goal is to increase the level of the water in the room, you need to release the water on the glass pillar using the champagne bottle. Click on the bottle and aim it to the glass – hold it till its pressure increase at top (you can see it on the left bottom corner of you screen) and then release it. Now you’ll break the glass and the water level raises, you need to this one more time on the other glass pillar.
  • Now push the orange lifesaver where Starbuck is landed. TIP: To push her easily, you need to place your head at the edge of the orange lifesaver and push left. When you get to the door, you will be automatically got outside the ship.

Things are Turning Down – Saving the Engineer

  • Yikes! The ship is straight up and down and sinking even further. This is where the Titanic ended! Head back to the ship, this time, the entrance is gone and the only way to get inside the ship is on the hole at the top of the ship. Here’s how to get to the top of the ship, swim to the second left ring and get on top of it. Jump to the pile of ice to the right. Climb the pile and jump onto the satellite dish and continue to your left as you climb the ship and jump from platform to platform. You’ll then need to jump to the first rope and climb to the top. Then, fall to your right and grab the second rope and climb to the top. Fall again to your right and use the umbrellas to bounce up and land on a platform. Continue up and to the left on the various platforms and jump into the hole.
  • Inside, let yourself fall down into the water, and you’ll need to watch your oxygen meter at all times. You’ll notice big bubbles or groups of small bubbles while you’re under water — you can use those to breathe and increase your oxygen level if you can’t make it to the top. Click the red gear to open the pipe and fill the space with more water, making the floating box rise, which is blocking the door to the ballroom.
  • Swim to the top quickly, watch out with the jellyfish. Make your way across to the right and climb onto the chandelier so you can jump up to the next level. You’ll need to continue jumping up and making your way all the way to the left. Jump up past the bar to the next level and you have a water puzzle to solve.
  • Your goal is to make the water flow to the red bulb at the top. You will need to switch the arrow to set the flow direction of the water. The water will make its way through the pipes and will cause the bulb at the top to burst so you can jump up through the opening.
  • Go up and you’ll see the Engineer stuck on the steams at the corner of the room. Make your way through to get the location of the Engineer. He’ll tell you that you must help reduce the pressure, but you’ll have to be quick!
  • The engineer will turn a valve to reduce the pressure and the water will flow through the pipe. Make your way to the left as quickly as possible and turn the green valve before the water reaches it.
  • Now there are 3 more valves to fix. TIP: Each valve has different colors. The first one is the Green, then orange, next is the red and the last will be the blue. You can easily find the right valve by following the color of the pipe. The orange valve is on the bottom right. Twist the valve and head back up and to the left for the matching valve, which is below the first green one that you had to turn. From there, drop down to your lower right and you’ll find the red valve. Twist it and head back to the same area, where the matching valve is just below the orange one. Finally, the blue valve is on the upper right, on a platform just below the engineer. Twist the blue valve and head back to the same area to turn the final matching valve. Jump all the way back up to the upper-right and over to the engineer to save him. You’ll automatically get outside the ship and you’ll confess that it wasn’t true that the captain tell you to leave the ship. But you save his life so he’ll just give you his Pipe Wrench.

The ship takes a nose dive – Saving the Chef

  • Oh No! The ship has gone deeper! Head back to the ship once again, like the last time but it’s a bit lower this time.
  • You’ll fall down and you’ll want to jump up the platforms in the center — but watch out for the steam they will knock you off! Push the junk pile to the right and fall all the way down until you hit the water. You’ll see the propeller fall on the left. Swim left and get to the propeller so you can push it into the hole in the bottom. Follow the propeller down the hole. Swim to your right and exit through the door. Swim all the way to the top, jump onto the box, then jump on the broken lights all the way to the top and enter through the small restaurant elevator opening. Look for the freezer door and you will find a pull of boxes inside that has icons of vegetables. Click on the boxes and it will reveal the Chef that is chilled. Push him to get out of the freezer.
  • Outside the freezer, your task is to make him out of the ice so that you can both get off the ship. To do this, you need to bring him to the oven heater at the bottom of the room. So you need to prepare the path where you will push him. Push the boxes so that it will drop on the blocked spaces. When the path is ready, climb to the pipe to reach the Chef and push him down till he gets to the oven. Wait for a little while. The ice takes time to melt… but hey! We’re in a hurry.

Things are looking down – Saving the Captain!

  • Oh-oh! The ship goes upside down! This is the last chance that you can go back to the ship and the only person who’s trapped there is the Captain. Hope he’s still alive! So run back to ship once more, this time the entrance is near. Swim down to the very bottom, if you can still remember the map of the ship. You need to get back to the “Bridge” room where you found the captain there. Take oxygen using the air bubbles. Be careful to avoid the snapping fish while making your way to the upper left. You’ll be in the Ballroom again, and you need to make your way to the upper-left of the Ballroom. Swim slowly between the jets of water avoiding the jellyfish. Swim over to the right and go through the vent. You will find the captain at the room where there are crabs. The captain fears the worst and finally admits that the whale was not the cause of the ship sinking! The captain wasn’t being careful and was chasing down the whale and ended up crashing into an iceberg. Use your Whale Song Gadget and the Pipe wrench to call the whale. Turn the gadget to the whale icon. The captain’s archenemy will come and break the wall of the ship and take you into his mouth and then spitting you out (like what happens to Jonah – a famous character in the Bible) on the Lifeguard Island!
  • The captain will thank you for saving everyone and apologize for lying about why the ship crashed. He’ll award you with the Captain’s Medallion for S.O.S. Island. Congratulations!

Guess what? Nonmembers, you can play this bonus quest too! After you receive the medallion, go underneath the water until your oxygen runs out. Then you’ll be in a submarine! This glitch is awesome!

Clean Sneeze February 20, 2012 at 7:40 am

I must say I’m very disappointed with SOS Island. :( You didn’t have to think very much. You just had to run around the ship and hope you get lucky and find someone. Another problem I have was that you didn’t interact with the characters on the ship as much as I would expect. My biggest problem is just with poptropica in general. I don’t think the newer islands (ex: ghoststory, gameshow, sos) have very exciting themes. I liked things better back in the “golden age” of poptropica (Ex: Steamworks, Mythology, Astroknights) I guess there are only so many themes for island to chose from though…I was thinking a candy land island or something fun like that.

Clean Sneeze February 20, 2012 at 7:50 am

It would be cool if you only had a certain amount of time to get everyone out of the ship. Like a REAL shipwreck. If you don’t finish in time all the people go under again and u have to start over. That would stink if you were about to win!!! Yes, I know, i have a cruel mind, but hey it’s an idea!

Grace February 20, 2012 at 8:08 am

Did you write out instructions for the bonus quest? I’m not a member really, but whenever I drown myself where the ship used to be and then click home, I go to the quest. And also, I can do the quest, but I run out of air. Any suggestions on where to find air bubbles?

greedy tiger February 20, 2012 at 8:52 am

I rescued the kid, but then it jumped me to bringing the engineer to the iceberg. Now I’m with the captain and waiting for me to blow the whale whistle. But I don’t have it. Any suggestions?

sam February 20, 2012 at 9:25 am

Kallie February 20, 2012 at 9:56 am

Lilo February 20, 2012 at 9:56 am

I was so dissapointed with this, just finding people!!! It needed something more, It was so boring, I completed this in 15 minutes literally!!!!!! I think Poptropica need to think more about there Islands, the old ones are a million times better, Astro nights, Nabooti but I have to say the recent ones aren’t as good, what about a…I don’t know, a hidden Island, that you have to find instead????

Cuddly Whale February 20, 2012 at 10:45 am

i only got 50 credits
why???!!!!

kiki February 20, 2012 at 12:17 pm

Where do you get the champaing bottle

Friendly Singer February 20, 2012 at 12:21 pm

I’m so confused with this island because on every other island you get 100 credits but on this one you only get 50 credits…. why is that?

Yours Confused,
Friendly Singer

grace February 20, 2012 at 3:53 pm

ive done everything (up until the point where the boat is straight up) and i pressed the little red gear and it only went up a little bit.i then tried pressing it again and it wouldnt let me.would you please email me and explain to me what is going on? i would really appreciate it.thanks. :D

Grace February 20, 2012 at 5:59 pm

o O nevermind. I actually read what the captain says for the help. I think it’s kinda weird, you get the submarine, but not the suit! Really, you’d expect both things at once. But either way, do you have a walkthrough on Legendary Swords? I need help with that.

Thanks,
Grace :-) :-P <3

Jumpy Storm February 21, 2012 at 4:41 pm

Is there any oxygen bubbles in the extra quest at all? i didnt even fix the first leak and i resurfaced

Crazy Lightning February 21, 2012 at 4:46 pm

I’m having trouble getting in the ship for the nose dive part. Can you elaborate? Thanks!

Lauren Kinney February 21, 2012 at 4:58 pm

Dear Crazy Lightning,
first, jump on a mini iceberg by the steam pipe on the right. Next, there is an edge with ice on it. after u jump there, climb the little window ledges; jump to the left to get to the little windows. Jump until u see a pink umbrella. Jump on those, then there will be more little windows. Jump till u find a rope with a hook at the end of it. climb that and walk on the edge of a little window ledge. jump till u find the entrance. (If you do not understand what im saying, look it up on youtube.)
Ciao for now,
~Lauren

Lauren Kinney February 21, 2012 at 5:00 pm

Risha,
Wait. i misunderstood you. you get 100 for the island, and 50 for the mini game. So technically, its 150 in all.
Ciao for now,
~Lauren

Em the wise February 22, 2012 at 1:37 am

I do agree with almost everyone else. This lacked in adventure. Poptropica took an old story that was pretty stale and turned it into a game. Maybe it would be better if there were more colors to the ship. Also, harder games. I don’t know, it might still be stale even then. Some new themes would be great. What about hidden islands, like the secret garden? How about one in a castle where lions roam or something exciting like that? There are many possiblities! Come on poptropica! Get creative!

A muy February 22, 2012 at 1:39 am

Ummm…..everyone knew it wasn’t the whale….heehee:)

Peacegurl280 February 22, 2012 at 2:19 am

Guys, i know why you only receive 50 credits…. Members ( when they finish the bonus quest) they get another 50 credits,….. So i guess you have to be a member

Lauren Kinney February 22, 2012 at 5:10 am

Dear Jumpy Storm,
No, there are no oxygen bubbles in the extra part, because ur oxygen runs really slow!
Ciao for now,
~Lauren
