Late last week, the Poptropica Store was updated with a bunch of new items. There are two new costumes in the store for everyone: Poptropica Babies. There is a boy baby and a girl baby outfit, each complete with diaper, bonnet, t-shirt, pacifier and rattle. When you press space bar while wearing the outfit, you’ll shake the rattle.

Poptropica Members also have access to three new sneak peek items for the Poptropolis Games island. They are the Wrestling Gear outfit, the Plant-A-Statue power, and the Discus. The Wrestling Gear will only be available for a limited time. Once Poptropolis Games leaves early access, it’s gone.

Of course, we still don’t even know when Poptropolis Games will be launched, so there’s no need to hurry!

Poptropica Photos (and all the profile features from Poptropica Friends) are now back online after being disabled over the weekend. Director D posted on the main Poptropica blog that due to unanticipated popularity, the Poptropica Servers couldn’t handle all the activity. But they fixed everything up and you can see all your own profile (and your friends) once more.

I’m busy working on collecting all of the Poptropica Photos by re-playing all the islands. It’s going to take a while! So far, I’ve got all the photos from the first five islands: Early Poptropica, Shark Tooth Island, Time Tangled Island, 24 Carrot Island, Super Power Island, Spy Island and Nabooti Island. Most of the islands give you four photos, but you can collect five on Early Poptropica and Super Power. Keep an eye on the photos page–I’ll upload more as I continue to re-work my way through all twenty-six islands!

The Poptropica Photos Page

It’s a big week in Poptropica. Poptropica Friends launched yesterday afternoon and Twisted Thicket Island just launched for everyone today.

Poptropica Friends has several different features. You can get to the main screen by clicking on your portrait in the toolbar in the upper right of the screen. You’ll get a new screen where you can add friends and track your own progress with badges, photos and more. You’ll need to know the username (not the display name) of your friends to add them. Here are a few to get started:

Once you add friends, they’ll appear at the top of the screen and you can click on them to see what they’ve accomplished in game including how many island medallions they’ve won, how many times they’ve completed each island, and how many photos they have. If you add some of the Poptropica Creators, you’ll see that they haven’t finished very many islands! Ahem. Ahem. You’ll also discover that the display names for the original creators are all “normal” Poptropica names (adjective + noun). For example, nednoodleheadcreator is Thirsty Flyer and the display name for Binary Bard is Clean Carrot. Cool names! The newer creators, like Black Widow and Captain Crawfish use their actual character names.

Photos are a new feature where you’ll get photos at certain points in each island. If you’ve already finished the island, you’ll need to replay it to get the photos. I’ll be writing a complete guide to all the photos once I have time to replay all the islands. It looks like they disabled the island restart feature for now, so it’s not clear how we’ll be able to do that! In the meantime, add sharkboycreator to your friends list to see some of the photos that are available to earn. Shark Boy has been busy on (of course) Shark Tooth Island.

The closet feature is for members only and you can use it to store lots of different outfits. It works a lot like the Costume Collector card, but you can store thirty outfits instead of just three! Click on the Save Look to Closet button when using the Costumizer to add the current outfit you’re wearing to your closet. You can browse your friends’ closets as well for new looks.

Update: It turns out that girls can do both advertisement quests. Girls rule! Boys drool! If you have a girl character, you’ll see Polly Pocket on some island (Early Poptropica, for example) and the Pirates advertisement on others (Shark Tooth).

There are two advertisement missions running right now on Poptropica. As far as I can tell, one is available to boy characters and one is available to girl characters. The one for girls is Polly Pocket and the one for boys is for the upcoming movie, The Pirates! – Band of Misfits. Here are all the Poptropica cheats and secrets for both advertisement missions.

The Pirates! – Band of Misfits

In this ad mission, you need to help the pirates sink another ship and claim its treasure. The mission is taken nearly straight from Skullduggery Island. In the game, you navigate your ship using the mouse to aim and fire your cannons and the spacebar to drop and raise anchor. Just seek out the other ship on the mini-map and avoid the giant sea monster and you’ll be fine. The other ship doesn’t fire back, so it’s very easy to win this one. The rewards include a pirate captain costume for boys, a Cutlass Liz costume for girls, and a Polly follower (a bird).

Polly Pocket Surfing

In the Polly Pocket ad mission, you choose a swim suit and a surf board and then play a quick mini-game where you have to jump over obstacles in the water and score 2,000 points. Once you do, you win the game and get the prizes, which include the Polly Pocket swim outfit and the Polly Pocket Polly Power. The swim outfit looks a lot like the Mythology Surfer outfits from the store, where you get a swimsuit and a surfboard. The Polly Power lets you give any other Poptropican the “Best Day Ever.” You kind of have to see it in action to understand. Give the video a quick peek:

The Creators have been updating the official Poptropica blog with a few new items about the upcoming Poptropica Friends feature. They mentioned that you’ll be able to see which medallions your friends have earned and even how many times you have beaten them. Remember, you can beat an island more than once by using Island Restart from your Map.

Right now you can see your own island medallion collection when you click on the green Poptropica coin at the top of the screen and then click on the Stats tab. Here’s mine:

Another feature of Poptropica Friends will be the Recent Activity feed that will appear on the login screen. There, you’ll see your friends and their latest accomplishments, such as completing islands, collecting game photos and more. This is the screenshot the Creators posted on the official blog:

From all the postings, it sounds like we might be seeing Poptropica Friends features very soon!

A day after announcing and posting the trailer for Poptropolis Games, the Poptropica creators have followed up with some more details about the new island. First, there’s now an official island info page for Poptropolis Games. And this is the description of the story behind the new island.

Once every 100 years, the ancient capital of Poptropica — Poptropolis — rises from the sea to host a tournament created to prove tribal supremacy. Each of the tribes of Poptropica sends a representative to compete across a series of grueling events for a chance to become the Champion of Poptropica. Do you have what it takes to vanquish the competition and win glory for your tribe?

They also gave some more details on the members-only bonus quest that will be available at launch. It seems that an ancient warrior will return to reclaim the championship for himself. This is presumably after you’ve won for you and your tribe and captured the island medallion. He’s the toughest competitor in the history of the games and you’ll need to beat him to finish the bonus quest.

The members-only items were also revealed. They will include:

1. Wrestling Singlet Costume
2. Plant-a-Statue Power
3. Discus

The Wrestling Singlet Costume will only be available during the Early Access period.

The name of the next island in Poptropica has been announced and it will be called (just as we guessed) Poptropolis. Specifically, the name of the new island is Poptropolis Games. Of course, no details have yet been announced, like a launch date, but the creators have posted a sneak peek video and you can watch it here.

The island will have an Olympics theme, set to coincide with the real Summer Olympics this year. You’ll compete as part of a “tribe” in a series of events modeled after the ancient (rather than modern) Olympics. It looks like the storyline will involve an ancient city rising up from below the ocean, similar to Atlantis. Other than that, very little else is known. Keep visiting this page for all the cheats for Poptropolis Games as they are revealed.

Poptropolis Games Trivia

Did you know that Poptropolis was probably one of the original names for Poptropica? The domain name poptropolis.com is owned by Pearson Education, the company that publishes Poptropica and it appears they’ve owned the name since 2007, when Poptropica was launched. Right now, if you type in poptropolis.com, it just goes to Poptropica itself. So this name has probably been an idea there for a while. Some readers have also pointed out that some of the original Poptropica Wallpaper images featured the same “ancient statues” that never appeared until now…when Poptropolis Games was announced!

Hey everyone, here’s a little non-Poptropica news for you. Pottermore, the web site and game from J.K. Rowling that’s based on the universe of Harry Potter, has finally opened its doors for new account registration. This doesn’t mean everyone can play Pottermore right now, but you can sign up for your account to get ready. They’re probably going to invite people in slowly over the next few weeks in the order that they signed up, so it’s a good idea to set your account up right now.

For those of you who don’t know much about Pottermore, it’s an online world based on Harry Potter. It’s kind of a cross between a game and an interactive book. You get to attend Hogwarts, get your own wand, and do everything that Harry Potter does in the books. At the start, only the first book is available, but over time they’ll add all of them. I know a lot of people here are Harry Potter fans, so this is big news. I’ve even got a section of the site set up for everyone who needs help with the walkthroughs and secrets once Pottermore is available to play.

Pottermore Cheats

The registration process is pretty simple. Just provide your email address and a few details to sign up. You need to click on a validation link, so you have to use a real email address. Plus, you’re going to have to wait a while for the actual game invite, so use your regular email account.

Good morning, Poptropicans! The big news of the day is that Twisted Thicket Island arrives in just a few hours. The creators posted a sneak peek of the in-game map yesterday (see below). It seems the new island will have thirteen different zones to explore. I’ll be playing the island as soon as it comes out and posting the walkthrough as quickly as I can. Also, this time around we’re going to do a live help session in the forum. You can join in to get help as soon as the island launches (no need to wait for the whole walkthrough to get posted).

In other news, the sneak peeks for April are taking shape and we’re learning a lot about the next island after Twisted Thicket. It’s definitely a Greek-inspired Olympic themed island. My guess at the name is…ready for it? Poptropolis Island and I think it’s actually a modern-day island where they re-create the ancient Greek version of the Olympic Games. Here are a few clues from the sneak peeks:

In the above image, the name of the city is clearly Poptropolis, which is of course a play on words for Poptropica and the ancient Greek suffix of “opolis”, meaning city. You know how a big city is called a Metropolis–yeah, that’s ancient Greek. So could the new island be called Poptropolis? We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s a good name.

The creators even snuck in a Balloon Boy reference into the sneak peeks, with this picture of some hot air balloons. The title was Balloon Boy but the caption seems to indicate we won’t see our intrepid traveller on the island, which is too bad. I miss Balloon Boy!

Poptropica will be releasing a new feature soon called Poptropica Friends. They haven’t provided very many details, but the basics are that you will be able to maintain a friends list of people that you meet or know in the game. You can add them as friends, share costumes and something they’re calling “game photos.”

You can share costumes and see profiles of your friends in the game. There’s also something called “personality pieces” which you get by answering quizzes each day. It looks really interesting. They did not announce when it will be available but there is a trailer video about the new feature here:

No matter how it works, being able to maintain a friends list in Poptropica will add a lot to the game and definitely make it more fun to hang out.

I noticed that the video was uploaded to YouTube over a month ago: March 7, 2012 but just went “live” today. So this is something that Poptropica has been planning for a long time but for whatever reason wasn’t ready to announce until now.

There is already a Friends feature on the top toolbar, but it is limited to adding a multiverse code. Based on sneak peeks and screenshots we’ve seen, it looks like this will be replaced with a new avatar icon and will have a lot more features.
